Alan Wake 2

Which GPU for Alan Wake 2 and your ray-tracing settings?

Choose the rendering mode before choosing the graphics card. Playing the story with ray tracing disabled and buying specifically for Ultra ray tracing are different purchases. The basic Epic requirements below do not establish performance in either of those settings.

BUYING INTERPRETATION

Choose the GPU class by the profile you will actually use

01 · BUDGET WITH ADJUSTED SETTINGS

Start by pricing the mode without ray tracing

GeForce RTX 5060 · Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB · Arc B580

Check a test of the exact card with ray tracing off. Do not spend more to match a screenshot taken with a rendering mode you will not use. The store's minimum and recommended rows do not assign a frame rate to this shortlist.

02 · MIDRANGE COMPARISON

Compare equal settings before choosing a brand

GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB · Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB

Compare these 16GB variants at the same resolution and rendering mode. Do not compare an upscaled result on one card with native rendering on the other, or transfer a benchmark from another game to Alan Wake 2.

03 · RENDERING-MODE CHECK

Feature compatibility comes before extra spending

GeForce RTX 5070 · Radeon RX 9070

If a particular lighting mode is the reason for the upgrade, check its requirements first in the Remedy notes below. Then look for measured performance of the exact GPU: being compatible with a feature does not establish a playable frame rate.

How to read the recommendations

The cards below are candidates for different budgets, not interchangeable promises for every rendering mode. Keep ray tracing, upscaling and frame generation as separate choices when comparing them.

Two dated updates that change the comparison

Remedy's August 18, 2026 PC update adds FSR 4 and FSR Frame Generation on supported GPUs. Its January 30, 2025 notes specify that Ultra ray tracing requires DLSS Ray Reconstruction. Check the installed version and exact mode before assuming the same lighting options are available on both brands.

Keep rendered frames separate from generated frames

Record four settings beside any result: output resolution, upscaling mode, ray-tracing level and frame generation. A higher displayed frame count with interpolation does not establish the same input response as an equally high base rendering rate. Compare the base rate first, then judge whether the visual result suits you.

When the premium is worth investigating

A premium is easier to justify when a matching test demonstrates a useful improvement in the mode you want. Include the delivered CAD price and any power-supply replacement. If ray tracing is optional for you, compare the less expensive rendering path before upgrading the entire PC.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Epic's recommended GPU promise Ultra ray tracing?

No. The store rows do not attach that mode or a frame-rate target. Check the mode's feature requirements and a separate benchmark.

Can I compare results from different patches?

Use them as dated context. For a purchase, prefer tests with matching game versions, settings and drivers; a newer rendering feature can change the comparison.

Does 16GB guarantee smooth ray tracing?

No. Memory capacity, rendering throughput and feature support are different questions. Check all three against your intended mode.
