ARC Raiders Crashing After Windows 11 KB5121003? Official Fix & Status
Microsoft is investigating an interaction involving some RGB components, inpoutx64 and three named games. A temporary workaround exists; no permanent fix is available yet.

The documented trigger involves systems where RGB-capable peripherals or internal components installed a driver or code component with a name similar to inpoutx64.
Officially named games and symptoms
- ARC Raiders
- MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls
- THE FINALS
- Game becomes unresponsive
- Closes without notice
- EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
- Device restarts without warning
- Every game or every PC
- A GPU-driver fault
- The final root cause
Why inpoutx64.sys and RGB appear in the investigation
Microsoft says some RGB-capable peripherals or internal components can install drivers or software components with names similar to inpoutx64. On systems where those drivers are found, launching a named game can trigger the issue. That is a documented technical association—not a blanket finding against all RGB software.
Key point: simply finding inpoutx64.sys does not prove it caused your crash. Check your Windows build, update history and symptoms too.
How to tell whether this issue fits your PC
- Open Settings > System > About and note your Windows 11 version and OS build.
- In Windows Update history, check whether KB5121003 or a later update is installed.
- Compare the behavior with Microsoft’s four published symptoms.
- Note any RGB peripherals, internal components and control software without deleting a driver or file just to test.
- If the pattern matches, press Windows + F and send a report through Microsoft Feedback Hub.
Prefer Microsoft’s reversible procedure.
Microsoft explains how to back up the Registry, open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\inpoutx64, record the current Start value, temporarily change it to 4, then restart. This can disable RGB features or disrupt their control software. Follow Microsoft’s original guide, keep the previous value, and do not alter any other key.
Open Microsoft’s KB5121003 procedure ↗What Embark recommends—and why we do not reproduce the commands
Embark officially links ARC Raiders and THE FINALS crashes to KB5121003. Its troubleshooting page proposes stopping and deleting the inpoutx64 service, deleting the driver file and, optionally, removing its Registry key. That procedure removes system components and can affect the RGB hardware or software that installed them.
GPUStores does not reproduce those commands. Start with Microsoft’s temporary, reversible workaround. If you still choose Embark’s procedure, open the official article, make a restore point and backup, identify the software that owns the driver, and understand how to reinstall it.
Do not change these things blindly
- Do not delete inpoutx64.sys only because a forum suggests it.
- Do not randomly clean the Registry, Windows services or System32.
- Do not change BIOS or Secure Boot settings for this issue; no official source identifies them as a fix.
- Do not replace an NVIDIA, AMD or Intel driver without separate evidence; Microsoft is investigating an RGB-component interaction.
- Do not treat uninstalling KB5121003 as a universal fix, especially because it is a security update.
When a permanent fix is released
First confirm that Microsoft has moved the issue to Resolved or Mitigated and names the corrective update. Install it through Windows Update, restart and test the game before re-enabling anything. If you used the temporary workaround, restore the previous Start value only under new Microsoft guidance or instructions from your RGB-device maker.
Frequently asked questions
Is KB5121003 causing ARC Raiders crashes?
Microsoft confirms reports after KB5121003 and later updates. On affected PCs, launching ARC Raiders may hang, close, show EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION or restart the device. Microsoft is still investigating the exact cause.
Which games are officially named?
Microsoft names ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls and THE FINALS. This is the published report list; it does not mean every game or every PC is affected.
What is the inpoutx64.sys connection?
Microsoft links the incident to certain RGB-capable peripherals or internal components that can install drivers or code components with names similar to inpoutx64. Finding a file alone does not prove it caused a crash.
Is a permanent fix available?
No. As of August 25, 2026, Microsoft’s status remains Investigating. Microsoft provides a temporary way to disable the driver, but has not announced a permanent fix.
What workaround does Microsoft recommend?
Microsoft explains how to temporarily disable the inpoutx64 driver in the Registry after making a backup, then restart. Because this can disrupt RGB hardware or its control software, follow Microsoft’s procedure and record the original value before changing anything.
Should I uninstall KB5121003 or change my GPU driver?
Not blindly. Microsoft does not identify a general KB5121003 uninstall or an NVIDIA, AMD or Intel graphics-driver change as a universal fix for this issue.
What should I do after Microsoft releases a fix?
Install the corrective Windows update from an official channel, restart, test the game, and restore the RGB driver’s previous setting only according to Microsoft or the peripheral maker’s instructions.
